Auxiliaries will be assigned to the OD and/or or other assignments approved by the ODC.

Auxiliaries are unpaid, unarmed volunteer citizens who are residents of, or employed within the Town and County of Culpeper, at the time of their appointment. Auxiliaries are not sworn police officers. While on duty assisting in the delivery of police services, and while in the company of full-time sworn members, they may assist members of the Department in accomplishing work objectives. The provisions of the Code of Virginia, Section; 15.2-1731 not withstanding, Auxiliary Officers shall not exercise any arrest or enforcement authority.

There is no rank structure in the Auxiliary Unit; however, this does not preclude the Auxiliary Unit coordinator from appointing specific job assignments based on job knowledge or expertise in a certain field. All auxiliaries will be considered equal unless otherwise specified by the Auxiliary coordinator.
